really embarrasing...already getting help with desktop and now my laptop is down

Hi, this is czechraiser who is in the US for two weeks for his brother's wedding. Jintan has been amazing with helping me with my desktop. I brought my laptop with me and discovered it's a complete mess. Obviously my security skills were nearly nonexistent and my penchant for visiting poorly chosen websites too great. All this has changed but I will have to clean everything up first. I soooo appreciate your help and will make a donation to the site for certain at the end of the month (paycheck arrived and bills paid time).
Here's the story with the laptop:

It's in terrible shape. It freezes all the time; it's slow, some programs either don't work or freeze it up; It freezes whenever i try to use either add/remove or search from the start menu, etc. I can't even get Hijackthis v 2.04 to load. I already have 2.02 so i used it and the log will be pasted below.
I bought and ran spysweeper before posting this log. there were nearly 150 infections, 3 of which were viruses. All were quarantined. I plan to install spyguard next, unless u say not to.
    Anyway, here's the log:

Re: really embarrasing...already getting help with desktop and now my laptop is down

    Hello again czechraiser,

The only malware related item showing in this view is that Ask Toolbar, which is considered adware/spyware. And the logs show Webroot with it, which of course says that instead of keeping the system clear of malware, instead Webroot has installed adware.

But what this log also shows is possibly two or three different antivirus softwares installed and running. No system should have more than one, as they will interfere with each other, damage each others settings and bring slowness to the computer. We can get a more detailed look at things, but be prepared to start uninstalling any extra security programs as part of the solution here.

First follow the steps here to disable SpyBot's TeaTimer, as it will interfere with the repairs. Be sure to do all the steps.

And to keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs. Here are some antivirus disable tips if needed.

Download RSIT (random's system information tool) from here to your desktop. Then click on the RSIT.exe to open the RSIT display, and click the Continue button.

If RSIT downloads/installs HijackThis be sure to agree to the install of that.

Once the scan completes a textbox will open - copy/paste those contents here for review please. The log can also be found at C:\rsit\log.txt.

RSIT will also create a second log, info.txt, which will be minimized to your taskbar. Post that here as well please (it will also be stored at C:\rsit\info.txt).

You can break logs into parts and use separate posts here when replying and posting the log files, if needed.

    --------------

Also click here and download the installer for Gmer to your desktop, then click that file to run Gmer.

Once the opening scan finishes, click on Scan (before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan).

When completed, click on the Copy button and rightclick on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and rightclick again and choose Paste. Copy the information and post it here please.

    -------------

Also download Gmer's mbr.exe from here and place it on your C drive (so the file is then C:\mbr.exe).

Go to Start - Run, type cmd (and press OK). At the prompt type or copy/paste the following, pressing Enter after each:

    cd\
    mbr.exe -t

Then type exit and press Enter to close the command window.

The report created in the command window will have been saved to C:\mbr.log. Locate that and post it here please.
    Lebe den Tag!

Jintan - Die Marke, bei der alles stimmt!

Re: really embarrasing...already getting help with desktop and now my laptop is down

    Hi,
So, for some reason when i click on many of the icons on my desktop, it won't allow me to enter the program. this happened with spybot, so i couldn't disable the teatimer, so i simply uninstalled spybot. If you tell me to reinstall a newer version later, i will.
I also can't seem to get webroot completely off, so i went in and turned off all shields and all scheduled scans.
I'm not sure if any other antivirus programs are running but i don't think so. with all that in mind, here's the first of the scans you requested:

Logfile of random's system information tool 1.08 (written by random/random)

Re: really embarrasing...already getting help with desktop and now my laptop is down

No additional malware being located by that scan, so just Ask toolbar so far. The logs do show Ask was placed there as a Webroot Toolbar, but the only uninstall option I see right now is for Ask. Which you can just uninstall through Add/Remove Programs.

Just to mention it, many (maybe most) of the online gambling sites/software do changes that are not in the user's best interests. So get listed like PokerStars is here. Really should consider not using those.

But these logs really do show you having at least 3 antivirus programs installed there, with Symantec, Bit Defender and Webroot. This will cause many problems on a system, so you do need to choose one of those, temp disable all security software then uninstall the other two. Being sure to reboot after. Then see if removing those make things work better there.

I would suggest you consider actually uninstalling all three, since there is a good chance they all corrupted each other in some way. And then reinstall one.

Re: really embarrasing...already getting help with desktop and now my laptop is down

hi Jintan, i removed the symantec and the bitdefender as well as the ask toolbar (i couldn't find it on the add/remove list so i used hijack this to get rid of it, hope that's ok). I haven't yet removed the webroot spy sweeper but i will tomorrow and then reinstall it. I ran the gmer scan but when i tried to bring up google chrome to see what to do next, it went to a blue screen and shut down. I'll run it again tomorrow and post the log here then. I think it's running better already, but i'll do everything you suggest until you're sure everything's right. thanks again so much for all the help!

Let's also see if that blue screen shutdown created a log we can check.

Make sure you can View Hidden Files. Also uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known File Types"

Navigate (right click My Computer, left click Explore) to the following folder:

    c:\windows\minidump

And if one is there, locate in it any recent minidump(date-somenumber).dmp files created, where "date-somenumber" matches dates of any recent crashes there. If they exist, then just zip a copy of it, and send it to jintan@malwarecrypt.com as an attachment. Please place "Submitted Files - czechraiser/hjt/dmp" as the email Subject.

If there are none, Right click My Computer - Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under Startup and recovery click the Settings button. Check "Write an event to the system log". Also make sure it is set for now to "Small memory dump". (then OK\Apply\OK).

If nothing else this will set the stage in case another crash occurs.
    Lebe den Tag!
